An immigration policy founded on racism and suspicion is bound to fail.
Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s government has gotten off to a disastrous start that exposes how much out of touch it is with our Nordic values. Thanks to the radical-right Perussuomalaiset (PS) and their ties to neo-Nazi and far-right groups, Prime Minister Orpo is desperately trying to heal the government’s wounds with denials and political fairy tales.
The government is mortally wounded. It will only be a matter of time when the government will collapse.

When listening to the PS and the National Coalition Party, one wonders if politicians like Orpo believe that people can’t see through their lies. How can you promise to uphold human rights, press freedom, and the rule of law if your policies expose the opposite?
Yle’s A-studio exposed these contradictions to the tee.
PS MP Jani Mäkelä, leader of the party’s parliamentary group, sounds like a fear-monger with a crystal ball and made-up fairy tales. According to him, the aim of the government’s tough immigration policy is to avoid the same problems in France and Sweden (sic).
If we want to look at so-called brown and black migrants in Finland, which are from outside the EU, the percentage amounts to about 10% of all migrants in the country.
Despite the small amount, which the media rarely if ever brings up, is the root of Finland’s discriminatory and draconian migration policy.
Said Mäkelä on A-studio: “The Perussuomalaiset have always and will always bring these problems to the table that have to do with immigration,” he said. “If we look at relevant statistics in France or even the situation in Sweden, we don’t want the same to happen in Finland. Sometimes we are pretty straightforward when discussing these matters concerning the consequences of migration so that Finland would never be in this situation [as France and Sweden].”
What is missing from Mäkelä’s statement is that those policies that the government plans to implement and make life much harder for migrants, will cause Finland to have the same problems as seen in France.
Mäkelä, who has a reputation for lacking social graces and is a poor public speaker, sounds like a sexist who is afraid of giving too much power and rights to women because things will go wrong. They will turn into intersectional feminists and make life impossible for people like Mäkelä.
This is not Finland of the 1930s but the state of the country in 2023.
Sad, but true.
