This week was a unveiled even more the racist face of the National Coalition Party (NCP). In Finland, there is a perfect term to refer to NCP closet racists as kravattipersu. One of these kravattipersut is MP Atte Kaleva, who helped draft the NCP’s new policy againt migrants. In his opinion, and that of most of his party, Finland’s migration laws must be tightened even further.
If Kaleva and the NCP parliamentary group have their way, Finland will not have asylum seekers in the future—who will be sent to detention centers abroad—family reunification will be made more difficult, S2 Finnish classes for non-native speakers will be done away with, and there will be no more language courses for chidren in their mother tongue.
Kaleva said that the big matter differentiating the NCP from the far-right Perussuomalaiset is their view of labor migration. NCP are in favor of labor migration while the PS oppose it.
If there is anything positive to say about the tightening of the NCP’s migration policies, it’s the fact that not all approved his suggestion.
Kaleva has called himself in the past a “researcher” of Islam, but this has been widely disputed. Kaleva does not hold a doctorate degree. To some, he appeared on talk shows as a “researcher,” but his “researching” revealed more of his anti-Muslim racism.

Another NCP MP that has receive criticism for his treatment of asylum seekers is Heikki Vestman.
Apart from the party’s tougher stance on migrants and migration, Vestman has undermined the rule of law with the pushback law, which plans to extend it for two more years after it expires in December 2026.
If we look at what the pushback law aims, which is to stop the flow of asylum seekers to Finland by shutting the Finnish-Russian border, the NCP’s aim, like Kaleva’s aim, is to stop the flow of asylum seekers.
According to Professor Kaarlo Tuori an in a caling criticism of Vestman, Finland no longer meets the minimum requirements for independent constitutional review under the rule of law.
Reports Helsingin Sanomat, quotting Tuori, “the Constitutional Law Committee lacks sufficient resources, its members’ parliamentary experience has diminished, and the authority of its experts has weakened. The key argument, however, is that the balance between the law and party politics within the committee has been disrupted.”
One last icing on te NCP cake. Helsinki City Councilor Otto Meri, who published a student name list of students with so-called foreign ounding names. His aim was a stunt to show how forigners were taking over a Helsinki voactational school. His posting received a lot of ctiticms for its racist nature.
