What kind of worlds live inside the heads of people who make political statements by attacking an event like North Pride, a sexual-diversity festival organized through Sunday in the northern Finnish city of Oulu?
Writes YLE in English: “A discussion event in Oulu on the situation of gay asylum seekers was the target of a pepper spray attack that led one speaker to be hospitalized on Thursday evening.”
The hospitalized speaker was Left Alliance blogger and city councillor hopeful Dan Koviulaakso, who was rushed to hospital after an attacker pepper sprayed his face.
“It was no doubt a strategic attack against us as we oppose the persecution of gay, bi and transgender people. We’re against far-right extremists and racists,” said Left Alliance Oulu city councillor Juha Tapio, adding that security would need to be stepped up in the coming days.
Apart from condemning such an attack, it is a sad example of how intolerance roams freely our streets and mocks at our civil liberties and democratic institutions. The consequences of the attack become more ominous if we consider that on Sunday it’ll be a year after Anders Breivik killed 77 people in Norway.
Two tragic deaths of Muslims took place in Oulu this year as well.
Far-right anti-immigration/anti-minority groups should know that intolerance has no master. Nobody can control it if you let it out of the cage. It can bite back hard as we saw happen in Norway on July 22.
Finnish MPs, Jani Toivola (Green Party) and Silvia Modig (Left Alliance), are the official patrons of the event.
Actually the event had nothing to do with North Pride, it was totally separate event.
Well, then you should get in touch with YLE and tell them that they got it wrong.
Going to the issue, what do you think about people attacking such an event with pepper spray?
Totally separate
It’s obviously a pure accident that the subject of the seminar was “the situation of homosexual, bisexual and transgender refugees and the threat from the extreme right”, that it just happened to be organised during the North Pride Festival celebrating diversity of gender and sexuality, and that somehow it came to be listed on the official festival programme.
So this event was “totally separate” in the Farang sense of “let’s troll a bit more on Migrant Tales“.
Look up fringe event in your dictionary.
I condemn this kind of attack, like I am against any violence.
Indeed, intolerance has no master. Which is why you should stop implying that only PS or far right is stirring up intolerance in Finland

If we are fair, intolerance can be found in ALL parties in Finland. However, there is a big difference between them and the PS. The PS is the only modern Finnish party that openly uses anti-immigration sentiment to lure votes. I am certain that we can go back to the days of IKL and find a lot of anti-Russian sentiment to lure voters and get their political message across to the masses.
We can also go back to 70’s when there was political censorship and oppression of anti-soviets.
PS is not anti immigration, its for different immigration. Learn the difference

What do you mean by “different immigration?” Are you talking about how the PS wants immigrants to adapt to their prejudice by being white, Christian, throw away their identity (assimilation) and just blend in perfectly with the rest of the population? The only way you’d be able to distinguish these immigrants is there slight accent when they’d speak near-perfect Finnish. They are the “super immigrants” that will save Finland from its demographic woes.
Here’s something awful that should propably require own thread:

It seems so far that a somali kid was killed because of an arguement over religion. Maybe Enrique could find out some confirmation about the ethnic/religious backgrounds of the victim and attacker. Killing someone because of religion just sounds too awful 🙁
Old news.
The Leppävaara case has been the subject of several threads on Migrant Tales, Farang.
Don’t you even remember the thread where you promised never to darken our doorstep again? The one where you signed off as follows:
The ATL article for that thread focused on the details and human impact of the Leppävaara slaying, but you were evidently so keen to use the thread as a vehicle for spreading malicious propaganda that you paid no attention to its subject matter at all.
