Three Afghani asylum seekers been on hunger strike since September 10 after their applications for asylum were rejected by the authorities, writes YLE in English. The three asylum seekers have appealed the Finnish Immigration Service decision to the administrative court.
One of the asylum seekers, Abdullahi Gulamesdiq, said that he fears for his life in Afghanistan because he was active in politics in the war-torn country.
”If I have to go back, my life is in danger,” he was quoted as saying on YLE in English. ”We undertook a hunger strike because the decision by the Finnish Immigration Service is inhumane.”
Another Afghani asylum seeker on hunger strike said that Afghanistan isn’t a safe place to live.
“How could we live safely in Afghanistan if even the president of the country and his relatives are in constant danger?” said Golkhan.
The Free Movement Network (Vapaa liikkuvuus -verkosto) and the Federation of Iraqi Refugees organized on Friday a demonstration in support of the asylum seekers who are camped in front of parliament. Some 100 people took part in the march.

Yes, Finland has attacked and bombed several countries during it’s existence… please, do not put all “Western” countries to the same group.
So what is it? Now you don’t trust the professionality of immigration workers when the decision is against the immigrants?
You can blame US for to certain extend, especially in Iraq. However Afganistan and Iraq are hardly a first country to be occupied by US. Such a war-ravaged countries like Germany and Japan were once occupied by US. If iraqis and afgans are so keen on making their own country such a shithole, there isn’t much west can do.

Afghanistan suffers from one of the world’s most complex political situations, and certainly at no point in at least the last 35 years has it been possible to say that Afghans were “making their own country”. You would know this if you had paid more attention to schoolwork and spent less time playing shoot-em-up video games.
The USA is merely the latest hegemonic power foolish enough to step into a region that has a centuries-old reputation as the place where empires go to die.

Please understand Enrique, I agree with everything you wrote in the article but this made me frown a bit. Finland is not responsible for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and I don’t think I’ve met a single Finn who supports the US-led invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan fully. Generalizing “Europe and the West” is a little bit risky as generalizations usually are. I don’t know why Finland wants to have troops in either country just as I don’t understand why countries like Thailand, El Salvador or Mongolia have troops in Iraq (or any non-NATO country for that matter).

When MT is challenged for whether or not they want that ANYONE who wants should be allowed to come to Finland, MT says no.
But now that we have the process in place, which defines who can come and who can not, and this process have now defined few people who can’t come, MT opposes this decisions.
Don’t you see that by opposing this decision you are actually saying that everyone should be let in. So, by opposing this decisions you contradict your earlier comments where you denied that everyone should be let in.
You need to decide what your opinion is.

The single biggest problem with your argument is that, like a four-year-old, you have to couch the whole thing in absolutes that do not exist in the real world.
Now see how quickly your argument falls apart when Enrique comes back to you and says he doesn’t oppose every decision to deny residency.
No, Enrique can’t do that. If he opposes any decision done by the authorities, it means that he doesn’t respect those authorities and he denies it’s capability to work. In that sense, it would mean the he would approve ANYONE who want’s to come in.
You can’t just choose to approve certain decisions, picking the raisins out of the bun, as we say in Finnish.
This was perfectly clear when Enrique and you said that I can’t choose what court orders from highest court I can respect and what I can’t. So, if you wan’t to say that you are consistent in your opinions, you absolutely can’t oppose this decisions made by immigration authorities. If you oppose this, then everything you base your opinions and voice here in MT, falls apart and you lose all the respect.

You do realilse that Allah-oho had exhausted all possible avenues of appeal in receiving his final judgement from the Supreme Court. Of course, he’s still free to disagree, but questioning the integrity of those that sit on the Supreme Court is not the same as disagreeing with the judgement itself.

If you were paying attention, and you very rarely are, I actually said at the time of Allah-oho’s comments that criticising a Supreme Court judgement is not in itself a disrespectful move. Refusing to understand even the nature of the crime of which one is accused and pulling into question the integrity of those that sit on the Supreme Court, however, almost certainly is. But you haven’t even caught up with that one yet, have you tp1. The Master can do no wrong, even though many in the PS party acknowledged he’d gone too far and had to give up his post.
