Emanuela Daniel tells about the historic protest they organized in front of parliament against the new speaker of parliament

Emanuela Daniel is an exemplary woman for organizing Friday a historic protest outside of parliament against Perussuomalaiset (PS)* Maria Lohela, who was elected as the new speaker of parliament. Daniel told Migrant Tales about that day and when she spoke to PS MP Teuvo Hakkarainen, who has also made many racist and Islmophobic statements against Finland’s ever-growing culturally diverse community. 

Social Democrat MP Timo Harakka tweeted below that the protest was “a modest” show of force but “historic” nevertheless.

Who would you believe? PS MP Hakkarainen or the little girl at sea?

Who would it be? Perussuomalaiset (PS)* MP Teuvo Hakkarainen who got reelected below for claiming that newcomers should adapt or ship out of Finland and “a sharp no to asylum tourism,” or the silence of a little girl at sea? 

Yes, right, this is the very PS MP who sent an SMS message wth a picture of his phallus by cellphone and who likes to hang around the yellow press with his scandals made up or real. Yes, this is the MP who claimed a while back that Islam was a Trojan Horse invading Europe and that homosexuals, lesbians and Somalis should be relocated to the Åland Islands.

Let’s now ask the dead girl with the pink dress at sea below what she thinks about PS MP Hakkarainen’s claims.

Dead silence.

Finland and the PS: The face of racism becomes uglier as it ages

The Perussuomalaiset (PS)* in general and specifically MPs like Juho Eerola, Olli Immonen and Teuvo Hakkarainen are, together with MEP Jussi Halla-aho, examples of the worst kind of extremism and racism we can find in Finland today in the halls of our parliament. They are permitted to spread their racist and bigoted views because they have white Finnish privilege. 

Disagree? Ask yourself what would happen if a Muslim spoke of white Finns in the same way as these politicians do about Muslims.

The Charlie Hebdo attack exposed a lot of things about us. Apart from our shock and grieving, it also unmasked our hypocrisy.

In Finland it exposed once again the opportunism of some PS politicians but also their extremist ideas and declaration of war against those migrants and Finns they loathe, like Muslims.

Racism in its most extreme forms has a goal: the annihilation of whole groups through genocide. We saw this when Europeans colonized the Americas, Africa and other regions like Australia. With the help of pseudo scientific “theories” like eugenics, Europeans were able to justify genocide or the displacement, exploitation and death of millions of non-Europeans.

What are we to make out of the following statements below by PS politicians before and after the Charlie Hebdo attack?

  • Eerola, who admitted being attracted to Benito Mussolini’s fascism and economic policies, states in a letter to the editor below that Finland can still be saved from Islam;
  • Immonen wants immigration from Muslim countries to end to Finland and Europe. Those Muslims that live here should be given incentives to return back to the countries they came from, according to him;
  • MEP Halla-aho states on his blog that the world view of the majority of Muslims is no different from those that carried out the Charlie Hebdo attack;
  • Hakkarainen claimed in 2013 that Europe is being invaded by millions of Muslims in a Trojan horse.

This tweet by Saska Saarikoski of Helsingin Sanomat says it all about Halla-aho and his cronies. “Halla-aho is worried about terrorism. Let’s not forget that the worst terrorist act [Anders Breivik on July 22, 2011] committed in the Nordic region was by a person who admired Halla-aho.”

 

How are we supposed to read these types of statements by members of Finland’s third-largest party in parliament? Should we shrug them off as populism or something more diabolical?

What do these politicians aim to gain from their extremist statements? More votes? Maybe. Media attention? Maybe. Keep Finland Christian and white? Absolutely.

What can you say about a politician and a party whose aim is to socially exclude whole groups of people with the help of those high walls of racism?

Probably one matter that we can conclude is that Finland is still in deep denial. It hasn’t yet awoken to the perils of intolerance and doesn’t have a clue why spreading such hatred is hazardous to our society.

Since too many in this country don’t see intolerance as a serious enough social ill, it requires a lot more leadership from Finns and migrants of all backgrounds. It would be naive to believe that the ugly face of racism will leave quietly and peacefully.

Time has the ability to expose our stupidity and ignorance. How do you think future scholars and common people of our culturally diverse society will interpret the statements of politicians that aim to keep Finland white at all cost? Will the faces of their grandchildren and great grandchildren turn red with shame?

This is exactly what happened to the worst racists in the US Civil Rights Movement (1955-68).

Most USAmericans want to forget what was done and said during slavery and the Jim Crow era.

The same fate awaits these politicians.

Defining white Finnish privilege #11: Case Teuvo Hakkarainen

Perussuomalaiset (PS)* MP Teuvo Hakkarainen is a good example of white Finnish privilege. Here’s an MP that has issues with alcohol, racism and now dates teenagers as well as allegedly takes minors to bars. He has sent on his work phone pictures of his phallus and Image magazine claims in its latest issue that the PS MP drove 306 km/hour with his motorcycle. Hakkarainen denies this. 

Let’s not forget as well that the PS MP was sentenced to prison for robbery.

After all these questionable “merits,” PS chairman Timo Soini said recently that he’s happy that Hakkarainen will be running for a second term in office.

Imagine for a second if a visible minority, migrant or, god forbid a Muslim would do only half of the things that Hakkarainen did. Even if that person would do only a quarter of the things that the PS MP has done and is doing, that person would be lynched alive on social media forums and by the print media.

The reason why Hakkarainen can get off the hook for all the things he’s done is because he’s white and a PS MP.

Instead of seeing him as a person squandering tax payers money, some see him as a hero.

Moreover, the PS sees Hakkarinen as an “authority” on migration. An authority? With that type of poor judgement, and not suggesting that the two are alike, we could argue that Heinrich Himmler was an “authority” on Jews, the Roma and all the enemies of the Nazi regime.

If you are white and have issues, join the PS. It’s a good party to hide your problems.

It’s quite remarkable that Perussuomalaiset (PS) MP Teuvo Hakkarainen, who has made racist remarks in the past like homosexuals, lesbians and Somalis should be relocated to the Åland Islands, still enjoys the support of his party after he sent on his work phone an SMS message with pictures of his phallus.

The incident is just another example of how the PS resembles more a tangled circus comprising of tragic-comic solo actors whose best quality is jumping from one scandal to the next. This is the party that aims to lead Finland into a new era, which is anti-EU, anti-immigration and especially anti-Islam.

Hakkarainen has apologized publicly for the incident but the story has now taken a new twist. The PS MP claims that he did not take the picture himself, reports tabloid Ilta-Sanomat.

According to PS MP Mika Niikko, the picture of Hakkarainen’s phallus was taken by a friend without his knowledge. Hakkarainen was drunk too drunk at the time to notice, according to Niikko.

Two years ago, the PS sent Hakkarainen to be treated for his alcohol problem. Apparently treatment has had little impact on his drinking.

Maanantaina 19. elokuuta Iltasanomissa oli artikkeli, joka on sinällään mielenkiintoinen, kun maanantai on muuten viikon vaikein päivä, etenkin nyt kun kesälomat ovat takana. Lehdessä kerrottiin kuinka kansaedustaja Hakkarainen jälleen kerran näytti oikean värinsä.

Minulle ja monelle muulle muslimitaustaiselle ihmiselle tämä uutinen ei ole mikään yllätys. Olen odottanut milloin tulee seuraavan Hakkarais-pläjäyksen. Se oli vain ajan kysymys, ja ihmettelin kuinka hänellä kesti näin kauan. Hakkarainen jälleen kerran tuomitsee suomessa asuvia muslimitaustaisia, ja pelottelee suomen kansaa sellaisilla asioilla, mitkä eivät perustu mihinkään faktoihin.

Hakkarainen toteaa seuraavaa:

Hallitus ei suostu myöntämään, että tuovat tänne paljon maahanmuuttajia,jotka ovat aivan liian suuri menoerä ja rasite meille.

Mitäh?! Eikö kansanedustaja ole lukenut tänä vuonna tullutta OECD:n raporttia, jossa todettiin, että maahanmuutto on kannattavaa Suomessa, ja tarpeen täyttämään tulevan työvoimapulan työaukot, mitä lähivuosille ennustetaan Suomeen? Eikö KE ole tietoinen, että
hänellä on puheenvuoro-oikeus siellä eduskunnassa, ja että siellä pitää tuoda esille faktoja, ja että voi tehdä aloitteita? Eikö kansanedustajan tehtävä ole yrittää vaikuttaa asioihin siellä, missä asioihin kuuluu vaikuttaa, eikä lähteä kiihottamaan kansanryhmää vastaan?

Hakkarainen viittaa TS kirjoitettuun uutiseen, jonka perusteella hän tuomitsee meidät täällä asuvat muslimit. Hänen mielestä olemme kaikki vaara Suomelle, ja että Suomen kansa ja etenkään isänmaalliset eivät voi hyväksyä nykymenoa!

Täytyy tässä todeta, että KE:n pitää päästä tutustumaan Suomen muslimeihin, ja ehkä kertoa mielipiteensä sen jälkeen. Täytyy sanoa, että Suomen kansalaisena ja uussuomalaisena minua hävettää KE:n puolesta. Kyseiselle kansanedustajalle on tarjottu monesti tutustumis-mahdollisuus islamiin ja suomen muslimeihin. Muistan kuinka KE Pekka Haavisto oli tarjonnut tutustuttaa KE Hakkaraisen muslimeihin ja somaleihin samassa tilaisuudessa. En ole kuulut, että kyseinen tapaaminen koskaan tapahtui, joten tulin siihen tulokseen, että joko KE Hakkaraista ei kiinnosta, tai hän oikeasti pelkää muslimeja.

En halua lähteä sen kummemmin kritisoimaan tai haukkumaan kansanedustajaamme, joten tarjoan sinulle uudestaan mahdollisuuden tutustua Suomen muslimeihin. Olen keskustapuolueen aktiivi ja minulla on monta perussuomalaista tuttavaa joiden kanssa voit tulla tutustumaan Suomen muslimien elämään. Tarjoan kaupan päälle somalikulttuuria.

Lopuksi, minusta oli mautonta haukkua toista kansaedustajaa joksikin mitä hän ei ole. Uutena tulijana sinun tulee kunnioittaa muita työkavereita, jotka eivät välttämättä ansaitse hyväksyntääsi, mutta mielestäni kyllä kunnioitusta. Meillä sanotaan että on aika tulla kotiin. Minä sanon sinulle että on aika tulla sieltä metsästä pois hyvä mies.

Mixed reactions to Hakkarainen’s racist blog entry that victimizes immigrants and Muslims

Perussuomalaiset (PS) MP Teuvo Hakkarainen’s recent blog entry, which attacked immigrants and Muslims, has been condemned by the vice president of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Eero Vainio, and by Muslims like Abdirahim Husu Hussein of the Center Party. 

Reaction to what Hakkarainen wrote is a positive sign that part of Finland’s political establishment considers Islamophobia, racism and intolerance in general unacceptable and out of tune with our values.

One reason why the Social Democrats have spoken out against Hakkarainen is because he named SDP Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja an “imam” and supporter of deposed Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Vainio said that Hakkarainen’s opinions are a good example of how the PS diverts attention from the country’s real problems and shifts them to imaginary ones like immigration.

“The Perussuomalaiset have to get their act together and aim at offering solutions to real problems facing our society in the face of fear-mongering,” he was quoted as saying on Tampere-based daily Aamulehti.

Nasima Razmyar, an SDP Helsinki city councillor and Muslim, said on a blog that what Hakkarainen wrote made her blood boil but would not demand an apology from him.

One of the reasons why Razmyar fell short of asking for an apology is because she apparently believes that racism can be eradicated from the halls of parliament with odd empathy for the racist.

Swedish People’s Party chairman, Carl Haglund, considered what Hakkarainen wrote as “sheer racism.”

“Somebody has to say something,” he was quoted as saying on tabloid Iltalehti. “I’m surprised ho little attention has been given [to what Hakkarainen wrote]…”

Without condemning what Hakkarainen wrote, PS parliamentary leader Pirkko Ruohonen-Lerner was quoted as saying on Helsingin Sanomat that the MP’s views did not represent the party’s.

”Critical debate is accepted and welcome [in the PS],” she said, ”but I will not say where we draw the line [on debate].”

Hakkarainen claimed on his blog entry that immigrants who move to this country live off social welfare and are “increasingly guilty of crimes, which were previously rare, among others, like gang rape.”

He claimed that it is every “Muslim’s honor and responsibility to kill and annihilate every religion and Jews, according to the Koran,” and that, “the West is being flooded by millions of Muslims in a wooden Trojan horse…”

Citing a story on Turun Sanomat, the PS MP said that there are Muslim extremists concentrated in the city of Turku ready to declare jihad on Finland.

On an Uusi Suomi blog entry, Hussein offered Hakkarainen an invitation to meet and know more about Finland’s Muslim community. Such meetings have been arranged before for the PS MP, according to the Center Party politician.

”I haven’t heard that such a meeting has ever materilaized, thus I come to the conclusion that either MP Hakkarainen isn’t interested or he really fears Muslims,” he wrote.

Hussein cited on his blog entry a campaign phrase used by the Center Party in the 2012 municipal election to lure back voters that ditched the party and voted for the PS in the April 2011 election.

”We say that it’s time to come back home,” he writes. ”Good man, I want to tell you that it’s time for you to step into the light.”

Perussuomalaiset (PS) MP Teuvo Hakkarainen attacked immigrants and Muslims in a latest blog entry, where he accuses them of living off social welfare and Muslims of taking over Europe. In order to understand how ludicrous and racist the PS MP’s arguments are, Migrant Tales will play “fill in the blanks.”

Migrant Tales has “played” fill in the blanks with PS MP James Hirvisaari’s rants.

Hakkarainen is, unfortunately, an example of how some politicians in Finland can get away with anything as long as what they state is racist or prejudiced.

But let’s play fill in the banks with Hakkarainen.

The PS MP claims that immigrants who move to this country live off social welfare and are “increasingly guilty of crimes, which were previously rare, among others, like gang rape.”

Some may believe the latter is true. All immigrants immediately become gang rapists as soon as they cross the border.

How would a white Finn feel and react if a fanatic claimed the following: “Finns are no good alcoholics, increasingly guilty of crimes, which are rare elsewhere, like pedophilia, shooting classmates in cold blood at schools, killing their children and wife before taking their own life.”

While the latter statement isn’t true because it generalizes and reveals extreme prejudice about the Finns, Hakkarainen does the same thing when he blames immigrants and Muslims for everything under the sun.

In another part of the PS MP’s blog entry, he claims that it is every “Muslim’s honor and responsibility to kill and annihilate every religion and Jews, according to the Koran.”  And continues: “The West is being flooded by millions of Muslims in a wooden Trojan horse…”

Citing a story on Turun Sanomat, he claims that there are Muslim extremists concentrated in Turku ready to declare jihad.

If we play fill in the blanks with the latter affirmations, it could look like the following:  “It’s a Christian and atheist’s honor as well as responsibility to control and kill and invade other countries, according to the Bible.” And continues: “The South and East are being flooded by military intervention and multinational companies in a wooden Trojan horse…”

If you want to continue playing fill in the blanks, just substitute words like immigrant, migrant, gay, Muslim, refugee and replace them with the group and/or ethnicity that is doing the victimizing.

 

 

PS MP Hakkarainen of Finland launches new attack against immigrants and Muslims

Perussuomalaiset (PS) MP Teuvo Hakkarainen, who suggested two years ago that homosexuals, lesbians and Somalians should be relocated to the Åland Islands, has launched a fresh attack against immigrants and Muslims on a blog entry.

Sensible people understand that generalizing about different groups, like Hakkarainen does, is not only wrong but racist.

Migrant Tales strongly condemns this type of hate speech that only serves to fuel ethnic hatred and further Hakkarainen’s questionable political career. We not only condemn the PS MP’s words, but the silence of Finland’s political establishment, especially that of the PS.

Hakkarainen, who represents the Central Finnish town of Viitasaari where there are few to no Muslims, was the first part of the PS tragic-comic political play that kicked off after the historic April 2011 elections.

At that time, PS chairman Timo Soini defended politicians like Hakkarainen with a poker face by claiming there wasn’t one racist running for office.

According to Hakkarainen’s latest blog entry, the government doesn’t want to admit that Finland allows too many migrants to the country, which cost too much to upkeep and are a drain on the country.

He claims that too many immigrants live off social welfare and are ”increasingly guilty of crimes, which were previously rare, among others, like gang rape.”

According to the PS MP, whose drinking problems have been well-documented by the media, it is every Muslim’s “honor and responsibility” to kill and annihilate every religion and Jews, according to the Koran. ”The West is being flooded by millions of Muslims inside a wooden Trojan horse…” he wrote.

Citing a story on Turun Sanomat, he claims that there are Muslim extremists concentrated in Turku ready to declare jihad.

Hakkarainen slammed Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja, who he called an ”imam” and supporter of deposed Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Is Hakkarainen for real or is he a political buffoon, who likes to amuse hard-core racists like himself?

He is for real. He is one of the many faces of intolerance and nationalism of Finland today kept intact by society’s near-silence.

If we had to draw the face of racism that has lurked in Finnish society for decades, I would start by drawing Perussuomalaiset MP Teuvo Hakkarainen’s face.  He may look like a nice country boy from Viitasaari in Central Finland, but if you scratch the surface you will find the racism and ignorance that lives in some Finns. If you think that Hakkarainen is the only PS MP who has strong opinions on immigrants and refugees, you better think twice.

Racism and xenophobia come in different flavors in the PS.

It appears that we have for now four types in this dubious league: the Hakkarainens, serious Halla-ahos, serious little gray matter Halla-ahos and the ones that can hide it craftly. In order to be fair, I am certain that some of the 39 PS MPs that were elected are not challenged on this front. Isn’t it high time that they should come out and condemn racism to save theirs and the PS’ face?

Justice Demon sent us a few video clips of the first group, the Hakkarainens. The first one is the original interview by Helsingin Sanomat of MP Hakkarainen with English subtitles. The second and third are parodies of the original interview without English subtitles.

Taking into account Hakkarainen’s whirlwind start in parliament, his official web page leaves us even more perplexed. Apart from promising to “build together a better Finland,” Hakkarainen wrties that he has done consulting work in North and Central America as well as in Israel.

Haka-Wood is a sawmill company owned by Hakkarainen’s family. The company gets half a million euros in subsidies from the EU even though MP Hakkarainen is anti-EU.

Meanwhile, I asked a while back if anyone knew who was the elected MP for the PS that the Financial Times referred to as the  “ice cream salesman.”

His name is Kaj Turunen and he’s from the same electoral district as I (Etelä-Savo)! There is nothing wrong with selling ice cream in summer or being a businessman. The question goes deeper:  How qualified must you be to represent voters in a serious place like parliament?

Turunen writes in his blog that it is only a question of time when Finland leaves the EU.

I wonder what is going to happen to all those juicy farm subsidies and how much it will affect Turunen’s ice cream sales in the Savonlinna market place.
