You should remember that the alternative for border security is mass movement of enormous amounts of people that western countries social security just couldn’t afford. And that would cause collapse of social security system and slums would start to grow. And the enormous social problems would cause significant problems also to those people who aren’t poor.

I sure hope you’d stop using the term “ilegal” immigration. I would call them undocumented immigrants. Undocumented immigrants PROVIDE A SERVICE, pay taxes and make a country more competitive thanks to their slave labor. By calling them “illegal aliens,” it’s easier to dehumanize them.

There are legal and illegal ways of coming to a country. IMHO, illegal immigration is more accurate than undocumented immigration. This is especially true because it might be possible to be legal immigrant, but without any documentation.
And I am not so sure that illegal immigrants pay (direct) taxes, because they try to avoid the attention of officials who could easily notice that they aren’t in the country legally. And things like getting social security number or contacting tax authorities would draw the attention of officials.
And I don’t think that is desirable that we get some kind of slave labour market, shanty towns, begging etc here. Slave labour makes it difficult for native Finns to get employment with decent wage and shanty towns and begging spread large amounts of nasty social problems.

Don’t blame the migrants but the companies that hire them. They are one of the many culprits.
It may help to ask yourself what it might mean to be an illegal non-immigrant. Finnish children who are born and raised without the knowledge of public authorities might arguably fall into this category. Would you choose to refer to them as “illegal non-immigrants” or as “undocumented citizens”?
