Harassment of Migrant Tales

Posted on March 31, 2012 by Migrant Tales

By Enrique Tessieri

Migrant Tales and I have been harassed by an individual since March 3, who has been demanding compensation for “defaming” him, an anonymous person.  Yes, you heard it: defaming an anonymous person.

After sending an email to the whole staff of one of my workplaces, it’s pretty clear that this person had crossed the line.

I have repeatedly received unwanted communications demanding money and threatening manifestly unfounded legal proceedings. As mentioned, the perpetrator broadened the scope Friday of this behavior to include one of my employers. At the very least, this constitutes a degree of harassment that exceeds the threshold for a restraining order.

I recommend to everyone who may be experiencing something similar or worse to go report the matter to the police. This is not only important for you but for other immigrants who are being harassed as well. At the best you will be raising greater awareness in the Finnish police and that this type of behavior will not be tolerated.

JusticeDemon says that one way to proceed is to get a restraining order from the courts. Here is some general and more detailed information in English on what is a restraining order.

Unwanted communication? Wow, one email, two? Wowzers!

So, the courts will give a restraining order against anonymous people? Thats cool, do you live in the middle of a forest? I see it a bit problematic in the city, unless the council gives a planning permission for a 2nd Berlin wall. Will the court also put your blog onto your own laptop, and unplug the network cable to make sure nobody anonymous approaches you, there must be about 6 billion people in the world you don’t know?

Could you please publish those deranged emails – proof or it didn’t happen! I do admit I need a good laugh, the rant must be comedy gold.

Restraining order due to two emails? What was this police term for a “whining git” again?

You must really hate being an immigrant in the UK because you spend your days acting like a “whining git” on internet forums and blogs whining about immigration to the country that you emigrated from.

Naah, I am contemplating I might end up silly and needing to come back to an old folks home. Though I do have a plan B of moving to Kerala as a pensioner, volunteering in a school and making the world a better place in diapers like Gandhi, instead of rotting in diapers in Kuusaa.

I remeber in the 1970’s there were similar laws in Finland.

D4R: As a Finn born and raised in Finland I was taught certain principles. I live “by the rules” and not by Finnish rules, but by the rules of the host country. I do not recall ever being opposed to immigration to Finland – my stand is that the “rules” are those of the receiving society. The old phrase is: “When in Rome, do as the Romans do”..

For your information, I have never entered a country illegally, I have never bulshitted to get things (even i could have), not committed crimes ( even in some jurisdictions a “crime” is something at home was not illegal), I have respected my hosts, not made demands, and been a “good boy”. And tried to speak the local language and “go native”. So sorry, I am really not a model immigrant.

How much did you do to get those Finnish laws changed?

Ricky was certainly involved in that campaign, but I don’t recall any Allans at Kolmen Sepän patsas on 10 December 1988.

Everyone else has moved on, but you are still part of that old problem, even though it was long since solved.

So whereas Ricky and other immigrants in Finland have a very long track record of campaigning for changes that everyone (even you) nowadays agrees were important social progress, your idea of a meaningful contribution amounts to getting into bars, “giving shit” and telling us that you pay your rates and have no other duty to your fellow human beings.

    Very selfish.

There are lots of things wrong with the UK immigration system, which now looks quite antiquated and horribly unfit for purpose by comparison with the system in Finland. We have shown in Finland that the immigrant perspective is essential to effective reform. What do you intend to do about this?

Im sure Allan there’re a pedophile Finns or other type of ciminal Finns living in uk, how would you feel Allan if whole british people called Finns a pedophiles? just like your doing to us immigrants here in Finland.Allan, you never met me, but you keep caling me a criminal while living yourself in another country. What is crazy is that, the Finns who raise the loudest noise in finland and who resist immigrants to come to Finland are the ones who like to travel around the world, ironic.

Ive once went out to a movie with a friend of mine in Helsinki, we left the movie late and went to the trainstation, as we were waiting the train and just chattin, my friend saw some big bodybuilding looking guys coming at us looking mean as hell, my friend told me about them, he was right, they really were racist and coming at us with a mean intention, we split with my friend, i went to the vr and knocked their door, they opened and told them i was being chased, they let me in and gave me a chair to sit down, i saw the guys who were chasing me they were right in front of the door but they were held not to come in incase they jump on me,the strange thing that heppened to me was, while i was sitting there the security guy started to call me names, he started to say something negative about my looks my weight i was amazed, i told him why is he attacking me i didn’t do anything, he didnt care he was being aggressive on me, he keep shouting on me like: do i dare to square off wit them or that they’re going to let in the guys and they will beat me, i was amazed and shocked, once i saw the situation being directed at me negatively and that the whole people in the vr and the security guys were against me i remain silent and prayed that nothing will happen to me, finally the police came and arrested me, even though i was confused sabout the arrest i was thankfull at the same time beause if something happens to me at least the authority was involved. But what really disturbed me about the whole incident is, while i was being arrested the guys who were chasing me were standing right infront of the door and police didn’t say anything to them. And this happend recently in 2005.

D4R a very sad story indeed and it goes to show how racism works in Finland. If you think of it, that is what some people do on this blog: the call their victims racists.

The only thing I can say is that what happened to you goes on because it can be done with near-impunity. Here is a good example of it happening in London by the police. JusticeDemon sent the article.

That situation at the train station you described is one good example of whats wrong with the Finnish law enforcement. The victim gets arrested, or threatened by arrest, while the perps go free as they haven’t done anything or theres no proof. Its more like you get in trouble for annoying the police. “Human rights” are for criminals, not for ordinary humans.

But I also know that the police do take the easiest way out in situations like this, and in a 1 vs 4 they remove the 1. The ranting security guard is also quite plausible – what triggered that rant is the interesting question.

It really is a very broad generalisation that whites can’t ‘see’ racism and a view point that is only going to hold you back, as it happens its also bullshit whites can see racism just as well as everybody else (some may not act upon it out of thinking its someone else’s problem) but the you’re white so you wouldn’t understand just turns people away from your plight.

His BLABLABLA just show this very simplistic handling of the diveristy of a multicultural society,

He is far far away of the basic understandings of the changes going on in this world. His environment -Combat22,Hommaforum, Suomen Sisu- are indicative for his level of understanding.

His sandbox mentality is simple. It’s me me me me and me. In psychology you would call this ego-tripping!!

Like Ylirauta. This jerk-wall of ego trippers! But in their perspective is is “high quality discussion”

It runs against their prejudice = prejudging of other groups. The fact that some on Migrant Tales even deny that some are prejudiced and racist towards certain group in this country speaks volumes about the problem.

It’s not what people admit but but they don’t want to admit. It’s not what they answer but what they leave out of their answer. These are things I look at very closely when interviewing people. D4R, I agree but we must ask another question: How do we change this prejudice in our society?

Here we have many options. We can study the history of many countries where racism and segregation were the rule. We even have examples of countries that went to their ruin, like Nazi Germany, due to its racist ideology. We have many tragic examples but we have many good examples. People like Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Alvaro Nuñez Cabeza de Vaca, Mahatma Gandhi, Aung San Suu Kyi, and extreme cases like Mohammed Bouazizi are shining examples. Our examples can go a long way. If we are at the right place at the right time it can be a spark that can ignite social change.

My thinking is this, we have to expose to the Finnish public those racists who come here attacking us becuase they feel threat in their position, those who’re lying to the public with their twisted criminal statistics, those who generalize and stigmatize a whole nation of immigrants just so they can make theire lifes more miserable of what it’s already is, you have to remember too, these imigrants are traumatized, some of them may have lost all their family and are in seriouse help mentally, then comes these savage racists who have no sympathy or whatsoever to these poor people who’re victims of their lifes.

Some may be sitting pretty in Eduskunta for now but their day will come. Why? Because their arguments are full of hot air. They stand a good chance of being exposed for what they are as has started to happen. One of the biggest blows to them is the lack of interest, and manifest unease, of their racism by the media.

Exactly. The irony is that the Allans and Farangs come here complain that we are make the situation appear much worse than it is in Finland and encouraging immigrants like you to believe these statements, and yet they do nothing at all to counter these statements. In fact, they are the ones making these statements!!!!

You are putting all Somalis into a group as if that was a meaningful category. How about you criticise the 1 in 4 young Finns living in the countryside if you are going to blame individuals for unemployment?

No, according to the latest statistics 524 do work. However, at the same time the number of Somalians is 6 593. (these figures do not count in ethnic somalis that have gained Finnish citizenship). So no, not at all. Also, I am talking of those in workforce, as naturally the kids and elders are not calculated in. But in any case, where might these prejudices come from?

“As for justifying prejudice on the basis of employment figures – do you think this ‘prejudice’ helps or hinders foreigners from getting work?”

The same exact job statistics noted that the best employed, even better employed than native Finns were nepalese and Kenyan nationals. So what can it be then, that Kenyans and Somalians, two neighbouring countries’ nationals have such discrepancy in employability. Surely the Finns are all racists and its their fault, yeah?

And just where the hell did I say that? they can express themselves all they like. I’m saying that everyone’s voice should be heard regardless of skin colour (also I know its already been said but you are white so maybe you should hand the blog over to a brown man you fascist.)

Tom, everyone’s voice should be heard but I think a white voice telling us the usual “there isn’t racism” to a black person sounds pretty suspect.

I am reading black text on white paper. I don’t see any difference in skin color when I read peoples posts. The opinions are assessed by teh same criteria and have the same value to me, based on their content. Why should it be any different?

That is about as likely as it being ALL the fault of Somalis. This is exactly the kind of ‘rattle-cage’ discussions I want to get away from Allan. There are less Kenyans in Finland. How long have they been here? What is their educational level? If the statistics on employment you gave are for those not including those that have gained citizenship, then it’s very likely that these latter are likly to be more integrated having already fulfilled the criteria for citizenship. The point is, if you are going to look at this topic Allan, it behoves you to look at it closely, carefully and over an extended period.

“That is about as likely as it being ALL the fault of Somalis.”

Well Somalis are the innocent lily-white victims all the time are they not?

“There are less Kenyans in Finland. How long have they been here? What is their educational level? ”

Kenyans have probably been a far shorter time than Somalians thats for sure. As for what comes to the educational level, then why is it forbidden then to talk about illiterate shepherds if that is the truth? Kenyans come to study, usually in the polytechnics. Nothing is stopping anyone from applying are they? Theres Ethiopians in Finland too. They don’t show much inaptitude to studying nor working either.

“If the statistics on employment you gave are for those not including those that have gained citizenship, then it’s very likely that these latter are likly to be more integrated having already fulfilled the criteria for citizenship.”

Why yes, but we can not access any of those statistics, as there no numbers being collected. What I am saying is, Somalis seem to still have an “attitude problem” about Finland. They expect to be served, they demand things, they want the “boss jobs” and refuse to work under women or in certain professions. Not all of them, of course, but a significant number to cause this perception. And it is not only Finland this happens but elsewhere. Therefore I have very hard time believing that Somalis are facing half as much “racism” than it is a reflection to their own attitude. The nepalese man interviewed had a very different attitude to jobs.

I can understand D4R is frustrated he is looked upon a member of his group, but unfortunately its his group that has by their own actions caused this perception. Its nothing to do with skin color in the end. Its got to do with culture and attitude. Finnish people like me do not like “foreigners with attitude” – it breaks the consensus and of course there are conflicts. Yes, when I lived in Germany before the EU I was asked if I had a knife with when I went to the bar. Yes, thats ethnic discrimination, racism, xenogenesis whatnot. Facts remain I knew why the bartender had this prejudice, and I did my best to alleviate his fears. And I didn’t go act “all Finnish” in that establishment as a stereotype. But yes, Finns are drunkards, have a knife etc. I know that. But I never complained about this stereotype witnessing a few Finnish drunks, I rather felt ashamed of my countrymens actions and honestly would have gone whack them in the head as they were making me look bad, rather than blame the Germans and call them nazis.

Hay man listen, you don’t know nothing about me nor do my people, so stop talking for us or about us like you know who we’re, i bet you never met a Somali person, there is no point of engaging a discussion with you, your arse deserve to be ignored, we’re here to share and discuss about the exclusion and racism that we face almost everyday, and you come here laughing and mocking us, telling us that we don’t face nothing, or you belittle what we go through, to us this is a matter of life, if you disagree with us so much then why don’t you leave, why’re you asting your time and ourtime, why’re you always distracting the discussion, i don’t see you gainning enything from this, look ive had enough of you, if you are not capable of discussing with us properly then i will ignore you.

I know my people more than you know and also i kno that, my people arent what alot of racist people claims them to be, my people are not here to leech off your welgfare system, my people are highly motivated people who just want to be part of this discriminating society, i know many Somalians who work and ive work with them, my people arent lazy, matter of fact ive never seen so motivated people when it comes to finding job and succeeding in life, we have faced a civil war and still are facing, nobody of us wanted this but it happen and it’s called life, now we’re here in Finland trying to better our lifes, trying to integrate and perhaps pay back to Finland by working and paying taxes if given oppurtunity, my people arent rapist or criminals by nature, ofcourse every nation has it’s black sheep right? andlast but not least my people are not stupid as many Finns think of us like we’re some sort of retarded by nature and it amuses me really.

Are there, don’t go to Thailand then. You can call Finns, assholes, imbeciles, pussies or sweins. Doesn’t bother me.

I said that those Somalis who have spent years, may be more they could think of their fellas in the camps waiting to come to Europe. They could have shown some more solidarity by working and not burdening the system to keep the bankrupt Finnish municipalities capable of taking more asylum seekers. They have practically put stop for that and the definate stop is to come with the new tax reforms.

As Enrique says, ”what comes around goes around.”

It is not too late to stop being selfish and contribute to the welfare and thus enable your fellow brothers to get off the camps but with the current economic situation it will take much longer. Could have been good to start earlier, ten years ago.

First of all Görän, i was giving you an example of how would you feel personally if Finns were genaralized and called names just like the new zealand priminister did? what i saw was a whole Finland getting offended by his comments, so do we, when Finns generalize us and call us names so to oppress us, IF YOU DON’T WANT IT TO HAPPEN TO YOU DON’T DO TO OTHER PEOPLE, simple as that, now Görän, let me tell you something, we Somalis didn’t figure out oneday that we will come to Finland and get on wellfare, no, it all happen in the matter of destiny, there erupted a civil war and many Somalis split to the world, we end up in Finland by chance, nobody planned this, as you may seem it to, Somalis are individuals, everyone of them is struggling with his life or how he and his family can better their lifes, it’s not easy to lie a country wich discrimnates you and labels you, when you go to a job interview you got tht stigma with you so chances are little for you to get a job if there is someone interviewing you who has prejudices against you, Görän, if your not pleased of thr welfare the new Somali comers are receiving then i suggest you complain to your authirities, matter will not help if you slander a whole nation and call them names, bytheway, Somalis are not the only ones who’re on welfare, they’re not the only imigrants in Finland, what amazes me is that, i don’t see no one mentioning other imigrants, only Somalis are blamed off every thing that happens in Finland, if there comes a resession, it’s blamed Somalis, if there is a crime commit by a foreigner the first thing that comes to Finns mind is a Somali, so what i think is, there must be a race behind it, i can’t think of anything else, if there is no race behind why we keep getting hit to the ground, then why arent Russians or estonians, the ones who’re top on crime statistics in this country slandered just as we do? you can see barely Somalis in no where but despite that, Somalis are in the mouth of almost every Finn.

Doesn’t matter how would things be without them, what matters is, give the Somalis who do hard job in your country their respect,it’s not fair for you to call them names after they’re contributing and working hard, earning their money. if you want to be fair, talk about also, how many Finns are on welfare, or how many other immigrants are on welfare, how many Somalis work? you can’t just talk about the Somalis who’re on welfare only, but you have to be rair and talk about the Somalis who work hard too and contribute to this country, but you don’t want to do that, you don’t want to be fair, you have only one agenda and it so slander.

”if your not pleased of thr welfare the new Somali comers are receiving then i suggest you complain to your authirities”

I will not have to do it. Multiculturalism don’t work and the Somalis are just one nationality to prove so. Though, their burden has been so big that there needs to be no arguments. And the immigration is seizing. Money is out.

”Somalis are not the only ones who’re on welfare” True, but they are along with other muslims from Iraq, Iran, Afganistan those who are the most expensive in relation to their population.
