Dana: Why doesn’t President Sauli Niinistö care about immigrants? What’s his stance on racism?

Posted on October 23, 2013 by Migrant Tales

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Finland is a small country but a very proud one about its political and legal system. Some Finns believe they are, however, so different from other people on this planet and they can’t explain why.

For example…in Finland the law functions like magic; they believe that the law is so comprehensive that no-one in this country can behave in a racist manner and make the same mistake over and over again.

You can ask questions about the political and legal system but no-one will answer your questions…the Finnish system is supposed to respect human rights and give you a lot of freedom but still there’s a reject stamp on each question you ask, especially if it’s about family reunification.

This blog entry is about Sauli Niinistö, the President of Finalnd.

I have never seen him once organize a seminar or meeting with our immigrant community. Have you?

Why hasn’t he??? Is there a Finn that can answer this question? What about a foreigner?

What does Niinistö think about immigrants, refugees, or about me as a foreigner who lives here?

Who knows? Come on! Hands up! Speak up! Why doesn’t anyone ask this question to Niinistö: “Why don’t you speak up and defend our ever-growing culturally diverse society? Why haven’t you shown any interest in us, immigrants and refugees alike?

IS IT FEAR MR PRESIDENT???

Or is it because we are still such a small community that you still haven’t noticed that we’re here?

Small in size maybe but in which respect? In values, in will?

Do you have any news or information about the president’s new, even old thoughts about foreigners?

Can Niinistö understand my suffering – or aren’t I worthy of his attention?

He’s been president of Finland for some time. During his mandate he has hosted Independence Day celebrations at the Presidential Palace. He’s been seen dancing among supermen and superwomen on that day. Everyone has their eyes on him. The media watches him like white on rice but they don’t speak about anything else except how he’s dressed.

I believe the media in this country is materialistic because it is more interested in expensive clothes than in the suffering of others never mind growing social problems like poverty.

Niinistö went on official trips abroad, here and there; he spoke about different things but he NEVER EVER noticed our community, us foreigners, his neighbors who live in same country.

Tell me WHY??????

The rich people of the UAE are just like him. Since the Finnish governments needs money, they only respect rich foreigners from countries like the UAE.

No-one can call me a second-class citizen of this country. I am first-class and will always be no matter what anyone does.

In a nutshell, this is the course of humanity in Finland: Some treat me well while others look down on me.

Those that want to relegate me to the lower human leagues make my blood boil!

No, Finns do not believe laws work like magic. They however believe that people ought to obey the laws – like people usually do in the places that are not under total anarchy – as there are legally valid means for changing the laws. However these means do not include protesting to government officials. If you feel like you have been mistreated you can (and ought to) complain to police. That you might consider police to be racist is nothing but manifestation of your racist attitudes against the Finns.

Given that the President of Finland has no judicial or legislative powers and that even his executive powers are limited what who would his comments benefit? He can not change the laws nor can he overturn judicial decisions. As to your repeating complaint of family reunification, it is set as the family unit is perceived in Finland – how else could it have been set up? That it may not agree with your presupposed concept of ‘extended family’ does not mean that family reunification would not exist.

Ohdake only this? There are no useful words from u explain complain and attack?

Mistreated ? Oh come on now don’t play a game with this word… so u calling me racist is a mistreated from U too, YES?

Do you call a physically attack from a police a mistreated in your village ( Finland )?

Best joke of dark history in Finland come out of your mouth, its ur simple and common tactic, who cares??

And racist is you who calls me racist because am fighting to racists, how a fighter to racists is racist?
    ……
Why your president does not answer himself?
You afraid to answer questions? Or u r agree with him ?

Ohdake, exactly u and ur comment shows that u believe law in Finland is magic, u stand against yourself with ur comment.

    So what more you know?

Mistreated ? Oh come on now don’t play a game with this word… so u calling me racist is a mistreated from U too, YES?

Only if it would be inaccurate description of your statements. You however explicitly expressed that you discriminate against the Finnish police (which could be understood as racism) because you _believe_ that they are racists themselves. It is not any of my problems that you dug a hole for yourself with your statements.

Do you call a physically attack from a police a mistreated in your village ( Finland )?

If you fail to heed by given orders by the police officers and then physically resist on a police officer performing his duties then i really can not see that as mistreatment from the side of the police officers.

And racist is you who calls me racist because am fighting to racists, how a fighter to racists is racist?

Wrong once again. If your decisions rely on discrimination according to ethnicity then you are (mildly) racist, possibly without realizing that by yourself. As said you by your very own statement expressed that

Police wont support a foreigner, i waste my time on this, and i got suffer from this.
Police, court and law in Finland, Finnish system are supporters of each other, even if polices are racist .

Above was a comment made by Brave from the other discussion – where Brave made such allegations.

Ohdake, exactly u and ur comment shows that u believe law in Finland is magic, u stand against yourself with ur comment.

If you believe that then you clearly had not understand a single word that i wrote earlier. Just because the system does not dance according to your tune does not mean that it would be racist.

Given that you committed the only crime i recall that there was i really fail to see what you are complaining about. Just because YOU believe that something was done against you does not mean a thing. World does not revolve around YOU. From what has been told the police officers & court worked exactly like they would with any non-cooperative person – nothing racist in that. It would really help if you would be able to have any tiny bit of objectivity in the matter but that seems to be impossible.

I wont dance with a racist law, and such a law is good dancer for u, because u praise it, so we r very different ohdake, very much thats why u and ur law, racists hate me, because i am not dancing with u in ur dark history

I don’t hate you – I merely pity you. If you refuse to accept that world does not revolve around you then there is very little that can be done. Trying to paint yourself into the corner is just plain silly and will only make you appear almost like a clown, but if that is what you are after then sure do ahead and keep doing so.

Ur words are not difficult so easy and simple like yourself, i understand ur minds and ur hate, u just spray ur hate and u have no word except racist, ur hate is belong to u an dur heart it does not work on me, am BRAVE and wont except gifts from racist side

Given that i don’t hate you it is rather extraordinary that you can understand something that does not exist. But sure keep on going, you are only making a fool out of yourself.

U can not close my mouth

Why would any one bother? I merely replied to your comments but it appears that you are incapable of accepting any type of criticism for your own actions.

This blog made u angry ? Is not it freedom to speak about president and ask questions?

If you want to ask questions from the president you can always do so. There is whole official website just for that. How about you would actually just grow up and do something instead of complaining about it? Only reason i can see for your complaints here is that you know that you have nothing but hot air to actually go on so you are unwilling to actually put the matter forward.

So in ur village asking question is forbidden too? Yes?

Of course not. But if you keep refusing to accept the reply after receiving it like you do then you are considered to be nothing but petulant and immature. And as a result, generally ignored by the rest.

President is not a holy word, we r living in 21th century, people can ask questions, am a citizen of this social, i have right to asking my questions

It isn’t a holy word, and even less so in Finland where president has only limited executive powers without any judicial or legislative powers. Which seems to be something that you fail to understand. Unlike in the US of A in Finland president can’t really do a thing – especially on the matters you keep complaining about.

Just because YOU believe that something was done against you does not mean a thing.

Anyone that would openly deny another human being the right and validity of their own experience is seriously in need of therapy, Ohdake. You don’t have to agree, but you SHOULD respect the right of Dana to tell you how she sees her experience.

From what has been told the police officers & court worked exactly like they would with any non-cooperative person – nothing racist in that.

Total hogwash. A system that is set up in such a way that tacit knowledge of how it works is needed so as to avoid falling foul of that system is necessarily and potentially a system that can be extremely harmful to those that do not have that knowledge. Blaming foreigners for effectively being foreign and thereby falling foul of the system is like blaming a blind person for tripping over a log that was put directly in their path with the argument that ‘hey, everyone else can see it!’

Refusing to open the system up to proper scrutiny in such unfortunate circumstances as Dana or even insisting that all such cases must be treated AS IF the person involved had all the necessary tacit knowledge of that system would in effect be a form of institutional racism.

Once again you demonstrate your excellent ability to sever statements from their context and twist their meanings. Comment was solely about the Dana’s/Brave’s claim that crimes with apparently racist motives had been committed against her. So to make it clearer, just because Dana/Brave believes that a criminal act with racist motives was committed against her does not magically transform the event into such regardless of Dana’s/Brave’s opinions. She has right to her opinions but when she starts to swing actual claims like ‘racist crimes’ around then there should be more than just hot air behind the claims or she will be seen as a village idiot.

There is no ‘tacit knowledge’ required. An order by police officer is a direct order under any government, those are not suggestions or recommendations. If you make a decision to defy the orders issued by the police officers then you better be ready to face the consequences. Same rule applies in other countries just as well. It has nothing to do with institutional racism as it does not apply against any specific racial group.

        Ohdake

Once again you demonstrate your excellent ability to sever statements from their context and twist their meanings

The only thing ‘twisted’ here is your approach to Dana and the way you routinely attempt to undermine her most basic of rights to make sense of her own experiences.

Just because YOU believe that something was done against you does not mean a thing. World does not revolve around YOU.

The tone of this comment, which is what I was referring to, is dismissive and insulting. Why would you tell a grown up person that the world does not ‘revolve around you’? It’s a very mean comment designed to hurt the individual that it is aimed at. Now tell me that isn’t true?

As I said before, you can of course disagree, but the way you are making this personal is not something I will tolerate on this website. Consider this your first Official Warning, Ohdake.

or she will be seen as a village idiot.

Absolutely unbelievable – you first try to squirm your way out of the fact that you have been making very mean and personal attacks and then you come out with a humdinger like that!

Okay, you had your first official warning, now consider your subscription to this site suspended for one month from this date!

There is no ‘tacit knowledge’ required. An order by police officer is a direct order under any government, those are not suggestions or recommendations.

Actually, there is a great deal of tacit knowledge involved and it is essential to understanding intercultural communication, as is becoming increasingly clear from research. As a starting point, ponder the meanings of this particular:

“Implicit knowledge is not an individual knowledge, but a collectively shared social background knowledge. We acquire it through participation in a social praxis in our primary process of socialization through imitation, accession, rehearsal, and training, as Wittgenstein (1989) says, in the sense of drilling. Through this participation in the language games of a life form, and that is the second feature, an implicit norm is always communicated, namely the correct participation that is distinguished from an incorrect participation: “one does it this way and not another. Actions’ accessibility for further action ultimately depends upon this correct participation. We encounter here the normative character of implicit knowledge, which cannot be transformed into explicit norms or articulations of rules and which should not be confused with them (for example, with a law or a prescription). In his path-breaking book Making it Explicit, Robert Brandom (1994) argues in line with Wittgenstein that “[i]t must be possible to make sense of a notion of norms implicit in practice […] without appeal to any explicit rules or capacities on the part of those participants to understand and apply such rules” (p. 26).”

If you make a decision to defy the orders issued by the police officers then you better be ready to face the consequences.

Except that in this case, Dana was exercising a mild form of non-violent direct action, a method of drawing attention to political and social ills that has a very long and noble history. The heavy-handed response of the police was ample demonstration that something needs to be done in how immigrant problems are dealt with by some staff within the public administration and by some of the police. Yes, such action can lead to arrest or more typically, removal from the premises, but it would rarely result in a prosecution.

In this case, it appears the social workers and police were completely devoid of conflict resolution skills, a matter I find surprising given that they are there to act as ‘problem solvers’, not problem creators. Instead they resorted to the ‘strong arm of the law’, quickly escalating a situation that had to that point been one of peaceful protest. You might disagree with Dana about what she did, but she is certainly no village idiot for choosing to protest in the way she did or to protest the subsequent actions of public officials.

Why there is a president in Finland if he/she has no power?
No power means no responsibility, means go and enjoy ur time, ur trips, parties, etc… yes???
Is that a symbol in ur country?
IF yes, then he is a king If NO, then s.he has responsibility and should borrow his ears to me and my words, u agree? me means me and u, me means Finns an d foreigners? me means immigrant and refugees.
And if he is a king then
    A king has all power
So in Finland u vote a person to become a president just for his benefit???nothing for social?????????????????
    Nothing for citizens??????????????
Am asking my question and asking question is not a crime.
