Hommaforum stoops to new depths by “defaming” adolescent

Hommaforum is a forum closely linked to Perussuomalaiset (PS) party MP Jussi Halla-aho’s blog, Scripta, and to Suomen Sisu, a far-right extremist association. Even if Hommaforum and Scripta are only smears of hatred that stain Finland’s good name and values,  they don’t care whom they tar and feather. But to attack and defame publicly a brave fifteen-year-old girl, Rebecca Holm, who spoke out against racism shows how low they will go to make their point. 

If Holm wants to know some of the places where racial harassment against her and her friends come from, the answer is pretty clear.

According to Kansan Uutiset and Swedish-language daily HBL,  a complaint has been filed to the police for defaming Holm on Hommaforum after she was awarded on March 21 the Red Cross Award on the UN Day Against Racism.

In their usual smartalecky and cantankerous style, Hommaforum members claimed that Holm was “brainwashed” and that her harassment claims were nothing more than fabrications. Some wrote that Holm was being used by her family and friends.

“I have a feeling that if Rebecka didn’t get her daily dose of racism she would become frustrated and slip into depression,” said another Hommaforum member anonymously.

All those who commented about Holm on Hommaforum did so anonymously.

To not have the decency to speak out against an adolescent with one’s name says a lot about this forums. In my opinion, Hommaforum and Scripta are good examples of the sickness that has inflicted our society as of late.

They are like social media peep shows where little anonymous men meet. Instead of watching a naked woman or man, they get off by reading, writing and commenting about a social ogre called racism.

Three anti-immigration PS MPs will pay Hirvisaari’s fine for hate speech

Three far-right anti-immigration Perussuomalaiset (PS) MPs, Juho Eerola, Jussi Halla-aho and Olli Immonen, announced today  in a statement that they will pay PS MP James Hirvisaari’s 1,424-euro fine slapped  for hate speech by a Kouvola court in December. The statement, which was signed the three PS MPs, states that the fine was politically motivated. 

Instead of arguing the absurd defense line of the three PS MPs, let’s see who these three far-right anti-immigration politicians are. Starting with Jussi Halla-aho, he was fined for defaming a religion in 2009. Halla-aho is a Counter-Jihadist who has written on blogs like the Gates of Vienna, warning us about how Muslims are taking over Europe.

Juho Eerola is another anti-immigration politician who praises fascism and Mussolini’s corporatist economic system because it had no unemployment. Certainly he expresses such opinions carefully and in a hush-hush fashion. When his aide, Ulla Pyysalo’s name came up on a neo-Nazi membership list of the Suomen Kansalinen Vastarinta, Eerola did not consider this enough grounds to sack her.

Olli Immonen has warned on a number of occasions about an ensuing war between Christian white Europe and Islam. Immonen has been remarkably quiet after the cold-blooded killings in Oulu that saw a naturalized Finn of Moroccan background gunned down by a white Finn.

The three, including Hirvisaari, are members of the Nazi-spirited Suomen Sisu association, which strongly discourages white Finns marrying non-Finns.

Of all the three, the eeriest has got to be former Finnish Railways (VR) employee MP Hirvisaari. After the tragedy that struck Norway on July 22 when Anders Breivik went on the rampage, Hirvisaari blamed the “100% rapes” committed by immigrants on Norwegians and that country’s loose immigration policy for the killings.

Comment: The Perussuomalaiset (PS) and other Finnish parties should look at countries like Britain to see how political parties in that country deal with politically embarrassing situations. Conservative Tory MP Aidan Burley got the boot as Commons aide after he attended a Nazi stag party while at a French ski resort.

A party spokesman was quoted as saying on guardian.co.uk: “Aidan Burley has behaved in a manner which is offensive and foolish. That is why he is being removed from his post as parliamentary private secretary at the Department for Transport. In light of information received the prime minister has asked for a fuller investigation into the matter to be set up and to report to him.”

Yes, I know that we are living in 2011 and the Third Reich came down in flames in May 1945. Even so, some of them like Burley have forgotten the racism and war that Adolf Hitler’s Germany reigned over Europe. Up to 60 million people are believed to have perished in World War 2.

What is surprising is that politicians in Finland appear not to be worried about their members belonging to neo-Nazi associations like Suomen Kansalinen Vastarinta (SKV) never mind far-right ones like Suomen Sisu. 

Finland’s politicians could learn a lot from countries like England. A key explanation for the firing of  the Tory MP is his “offensive and foolish” behavior. Without mentioning any names, I am certain we can come up with a list of politicians in Finland who have been behaving in such a manner as of recent.

Finland after April 17: Awakening phantoms of the past

What would Finland see if it took a long and deep look at itself in the mirror after April 17? Would it see the ogre of racism? Xenophobia? The rise of right-wing populism? Would it say in sotto voce: “Mirror, mirror on the wall whose societal values are the fairest of them all?”

Optimism is an indispensable resource that humans have to pull through difficult times. When we use, however, such optimism to create wishful thinking that is when we tread into dangerous territory.

After last month’s election victory by the Perussuomalaiset,  which gained 19% of the votes and 39 MPs, what would Finland see today if it looked at itself in the mirror?

For one we’d see a slightly different country where our values of social equality and tolerance for all enshrined in the Constitution are being threatened by nationalist populist rhetoric.

Alan Bruce put it eloquently:  “Europe is being stalked by organized and pernicious forces of hatred – many of which have simply been lying low since 1945.”

Anyone who wants a glimpse of the mindset of some PS MPs, especially those that belong to the far-right Suomen Sisu association,  should acquaint themselves with the work of Alfred Rosenberg and David Duke.  The ideology of racism, anti-Semitism and White, or in the case of Rosenberg Aryan supremacy, unites both authors.

PS MP Jussi Halla-aho, one of four Suomen Sisu members who were elected to parliament, has refused publicly to condemned Rosenberg’s and Duke’s writings.

He does not because the Finnish twenty-first century context of Rosenberg and Duke are Suomen Sisu and the Nuiva manifesto.

It is widely known that Suomen Sisu is against Finns marrying foreigners. The racist views of these people, very present in Rosenberg’s and Duke’s writings, is based on the fear that white Finland will be overtaken by immigrants and Islam. Their opposition to multiculturalism can be compared, in today’s context, to the loathing  that the Nazis had of the Jews and other minorities.

Rosenberg and Duke are the antithesis of multiculturalism, which means generally accepting and living in a culturally diverse society.

The main argument of Rosenberg’s The myth of the twentieth century is that the “Aryan race” became corrupted and lost its power due to the Jews. In order to become the “master race,”  Germany had to expel the Jews from the country.

Former Klu Klux Klan leader David Duke shaking hands with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Duke believes that his goal is “the advancement” of races by segregating white and black people. Is this what Somen Sisu seeks in Finland?

The same ideology, in a Finnish twenty-first century context, is being allowed through the backdoor by parties like the PS through MPs like Halla-aho and others.

It is not only unfortunate but shameful that some Finnish politicians’ lack the leadership to condemn an ideology based on far-right nationalism, xenophobia and racial myths spread by the likes of Rosenberg and Duke. Politics does make strange bedfellows but there are certain lines one cannot cross in a democracy.

Do Kokoomus, the Social Democrats and other parties believe that the Finland we are now seeing in the mirror will vanish magically with the help of wishful thinking?

Is Finland’s future being left to chance?

Iltalehti: Perussuomalaisten ehdokas: Holokaustia on liioiteltu

Comment: Here is a story confirming what some have known about some True Finns’ candidates like Freddy van Wonterghem, who claimed in Iltalehti that even though excesses happened during World War II, the Holocaust was an “exaggerated” fabrication by the former Soviet Union.

By his incredible affirmation, it is clear that van Wonterghem‘s forte isn’t history. For a matter of fact his world view is extremely selective like his opinion on immigration.

To claim that the Soviets had exaggerated the figure is outright ludicrous.  Germans like Rudolf Hoess, the notorious commandant of Auschwitz  during 1941-43 who cited figures given to him by Adolf Eichmann on the “many millions who died under the Nazi regime,” revealed how the death camps worked. Different estimates have placed the death toll at Auschwitz alone between 1.1 million and 4 million.

Eichman (1906-62), who was one of the major organizers of the Holocaust,  is quoted as saying in Richard Overy’s Interrogations – The Nazi elite in Allied hands, 1945 (pp. 192-193): “I laugh when I jump into the grave because of the feeling that I have killed five million Jews. That gives me great satisfaction.”

One of the defenses that the Nazis tried to use at Nuremberg was that it was simply impossible to exterminate systematically six million people. Hoes, however, who never showed any remorse for his crimes, proved them wrong with his testimony.

Even though this type of denial by van Wonterghem shows the real face of some True Finns’ candidates, what is even more worrying is the presence of  far-right Suomen Sisu members in the party’s anti-immigration camp. Suomen Sisu is a neo-fascist organization that believes that Finland should not encourage its citizens to marry non-Finns.

One such candidate of the True Finns is long-time Suomen Sisu member Teemu Lahtinen. In this video clip we see him marching at a far-right event in France marching with the Finnish and IKL flag. IKL was a fascist organization in the 1920s that got much of its inspiration from Benito Mussolini.

In the video clip we hear an IKL member’s advice: “All those that don’t have work and who are not tourists and aren’t Finnish citizens leave Finland,” said Matti Harjujärvi.

Another well-known Suomen Sisu and candidate of the True Finns is Jussi Halla-aho. He is speculated to be Suomen Sisu’s international contacts head. Some far-right parties that Suomen Sisu and the True Finns are reported to have good relations with include the DPP of Denmark, Party of Freedom of the Netherlands, Sweden Democrats and others.

Some analysts believe that soon after the April 17 election Timo Soini, who represents the former rural SMP wing of the True Finns, and those that back Suomen Sisu will go at each other’s throat in a power struggle that will cause the party to implode.

If we look at the True Finns’ message and the worrying far-right elements inside of it,  a big victory for Soini’s party would permit the rude face of xenophobia and its many forms to raise its head higher in this country.

This is the reason why some see these elections as an important watershed.
