The blood that the PS forced to boil has turned into acid eating away its support

I am certain that I am not the only one whose blood boils every time a Perussuomalaiset (PS)* politician makes a racist statement about migration, cultural diversity, minorities, and the EU. In light of the June municipal election, the PS’ result was a disappointment for the party even if they improved their result by 5.6 percentage points from the previous election in 2017.

While some opinion polls put the PS as much as 19% of the vote, they could only muster 14.5% in the last election.

The election was not only a big disappointment for the PS, but it shows that their campaign message lacked appeal among voters.

Despite the setback, the PS has ratchet up their Islamophobic, ultranationalistic and anti-EU message. Like raw meat thrown at hungry wolves, they believe this is the best way to get votes.

Their own rhetoric will do a lot of harm and dash many of their hopes. Their rhetoric is like a tinderbox that can explode in their faces at any time with varying intensity.

As the PS veers further to the far right under its chairperson Jussi Halla-aho, first vice president Riikka Purra, and party secretary Simo Gröroos, its message has also become more threatening.

In his cockiness fueled by opinion polls, Halla-aho targetted earlier this year the Center Party and hoped to steal more votes from them in the countryside.

Kokoomus gives nod to Perussuomalaiset’s plan to tighten immigration policy

The National Coalition Party (Kokoomus) MP Pia Kauma wants to tighten immigration law. It is strange that when most Finns are on holiday in the middle of the summer, Kauma intends to propose such changes.

Her party’s proposal should be seen as a green light to the Perussuomalaiset’s plan to tighten immigration policy if they win the next parliamentary elections in 2023.

While there is still a lot of work to make Finland a more inclusive country and tackle discrimination and racism, there is one problem with Kokoomus’ proposal: credibility.

For one, MP Kauma has little credibility to speak in earnest about immigration policy and integration, especially of people of color and visible migrants.

In 2014, Kauma started to attack Somali mothers. She pointed the accusing finger without any proof that at migrant mothers claiming that they bought with social aid new baby carriages while Finnish mothers bought used ones.

Kauma never backed her statements but at the end her claims were proven false and based on hearsay. She apologized later for her racist statements.

But what could be behind this stunt by Kauma and Kokoomus to tighten immigration policy? Is the party giving the nod to the Islamophobic Perussuomalaiset (PS)* that they too would be ready to tighten immigration policy if in government?

The heir-apparent of the PS, Riikka Purra, said earlier this month that it would never form part of a government that won’t significantly tighten Finnish immigration policy.

PS MP Ville Tavio believes in fairy tales like the great replacement “theory” and takes aim at pre-school children

Perussuomalaiset (PS)* parliamentary group leader Ville Tavio shows once again the party’s toxic far-right colors. This is the same politician who wants the PS to follow Marine Le Pen’s line and expresses love for Hungary and Poland’s governments.

Even warnings by the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (Supo) about the so-called great replacement “theory” is not heeded by the PS never mind Tavio, who warns that 21% of children at nursery schools in Turku don’t speak Finnish or Swedish as their mother tongue.

Tavio tweets: One in five nursery school-aged children don’t speak Finnish or Swedish as their mother tongue. (10 months to 6 years 21.2%). Certainly, the process of demographic change [great replacement] has not occurred previously in the Finnish national state as a force by itself. Still, it has been facilitated by [other] political parties through their immigration policies.”

Is Tavio afraid of pre-school toddlers? Or is he motivated by sheer bullying? Apart from labeling non-Finnish and Swedish speakers, what is his solution?

I believe the solution is inclusion and living up to our Nordic values that should promote social equality and, most importantly, equity.

Fortunately, Finland has laws, and everyone, even the youngest toddlers, is entitled to safe spaces that Tavio and his ilk want to take away violently if possible.

Tavio, like the rest of the party, is motivated by two matters: the loss of white Finnish privilege and power.

Education without empathy and moral compass can turn you into a monster

The process to turn Finland’s far-right Perussuomalaiset (PS)* party wants to become “a normal mainstream” party continues. You see, they claim, we’re “normal” because we have physicists and party members, like Riikka Purra, working on their PhDs.

Sakari Puisto, who is also vying to be elected chairperson of the PS and Purra, has a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Cambridge.

Whatever the PS and the media want to frame about Purra and Puisto, both are close allies of Jussi Halla-aho, who has a Ph.D. in linguistics but rose to power with his Islamophobic and racist rants.

Many PS politicians like Leena Meri, who are former police officers but believe that white privilege must be protected tooth and nail.

What is education worth if you have no empathy and lost your moral compass?

There were also many people with PhDs in Nazi Germany who took genocide to a new industrial scale.

Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels held a doctor of philosophy degree. That did not put any guardrails against his vehement anti-Semitism and did not stop him from murdering his six children before he and his wife took their lives in front of Hitler’s bunker during the last days of the war.

The list of Nazis with PhDs is a long one that proves over and over again that education does not automatically turn you into a human being with empathy.

Tens of far-right vigilantes are marching in Pori – I hope my fascination doesn’t show too much

Wow! Looky here! Tens of far-right vigilantes called the Soldiers of Odin are marching in the western Finnish city of Pori! Quick! Take a picture and publish a story because tens of Soldiers of Odin vigilantes are marching in Pori.

The media has a lot of power, but it does not go the extra mile when reporting xenophobic and far-right stories.

The Satakunnan Kansa story states that the Soldiers of Odin are an anti-immigration group, which is correct. When they write about parties like the Perussuomalaiset (PS)*, which ties with the vigilante group, they rarely mention that they are too anti-immigration.

Apart from bias and the fact that all of Finland’s newsrooms are overwhelmingly white, very few editorials are written about a social ill like racism and its threat to Finnish society.

The marching vigilantes in Pori are another example of the fascination of some of the media to far-right groups.

If they don’t want Finland to become a Hungary or a country that places its democratic institutions under threat like in the United States, the national media has to do a much better job.

The Finnish Perussuomalaiset who declared their love to Donald Trump and other autocrats

In English, we have an expression, a horse’s ass. A horse’s ass is a person who is stupid and looks like a horse’s ass after their statement. Sometimes, a comment that makes you look like a horse’s ass may appear to be months later.

The Perussuomalaiset (PS)* is Finland’s party that adores former President Donald Trump. Not only that, but they like the autocratic politics of Hungarian strongman Viktor Orbán and Poland’s Mateusz Morawiecki.

PS parliamentary group leader Ville Tavio went as far as to declare his love for the undemocratic regimes of Poland and Hungary.

Tweets Halla-aho in November: “Trump is the best thing that happened in a long time to the United States and to the west. Tweets MP Niikko: “Trump’s campaign is similar to what the PS does. Without Perussuomalaiset (PS)* party backing, Finland would have never had to read about MP Ano Turtiainen. From spreading racism, Turtiainen is now a staunch anti-vaxxer who believes that the Coronavirus pandemic is a hoax.

From “Pink Floyd” to his accusations to fellow MPs of traitor and committing genocide against the Finns, Turtiainen has come full circle.

**Turtiainen tweets: “I believe that it isn’t due to misinformation, but are a part of this corona hoax and also responsible for being a traitor and committing genocide as well.”**

One may ask how and who made it possible for Turtiainen to become an MP.

The answer is the PS. The PS gave him the platform. His racist views were ok and a feather in his political cap. The party didn’t even care that Turtianen was being charged and convicted for incting acts of violence against Red Cross-managed asylum reception centers.

The PS is a party that finds strength by spreading racism and romantic nationalism that never existed. In many respects, they are like the cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs commercial below. Instead of Cocoa Puffs, they go cuckoo for migrants.

Riikka Purra is a poor copy of Jussi Halla-aho

Perussuomalaiset (PS)* Jussi Halla-aho’s heir-apparent appears to be the party’s first vice-president, Riikka Purra. While Halla-aho has swung the party to the far-right and encouraging xenophobia, Purra has parroted the PS leader’s racist soundbites but with questionable results.

Like Halla-aho, Purra loathes Muslims and people of color. So much so, in fact, that she warned about ethnic replacement hogwash and how Finland’s population was becoming more diverse. In her book, brown, Afro Finns and other visible minorities are a threat to white Finland.

You don’t need to have a lot of knowledge on politics to understand that most of the catchphrases used by the PS have their origin from other xenophobic groups in Europe. One of these used in the last municipal elections was “take Finland back.”

Writes the Finnish Security Police (Supo) in its last-year report: “One of the most noteworthy ideological motives of far-right terrorists is known as the Great Replacement conspiracy theory based on the idea of a fundamental threat posed by immigration and multiculturalism to the white population of Western countries. Views reflecting the idea of a Great Replacement have been highlighted in several far-right terrorist attacks.”

Jussi Halla-aho announces he will step down as PS chair in August

Perussuomalaiset (PS)* Chairperson Jussi Halla-aho announced Monday that he will not seek reelection as the party’s head at the annual meeting in August, according to Yle News. While some party members expressed sadness about the news, Halla-aho will not be missed by many.

No reason was given for his departure. There is, however, some speculation that Halla-aho was never enthusiastic about leading the party. Moreover, his exit may be a new step in making the Islamophobic party appear “more normal.”

Even if the National Coalition Party (Kokoomus) has said that it could form a government with the PS, Halla-aho remains a controversial person due to his racist views and writings.
